I’m thrilled to be returning to my old college town—Charlottesville, VA—to gather with friends at Commerce Street Books! Join us Saturday, June 13 at 2:00 p.m. as I discuss my newest book, THE FLORENTINE ENTANGLEMENT with a wonderful moderator, Atlanta lawyer and history buff Brad Marsh. We’ll consider the moral ambiguity of the Cold War, the stunning Soviet takedown of an American spy plane in 1960, and how I entangled these elements into the story of a marriage fraught with betrayal. In mid-May, I had the pleasure of sharing Cocktails and Conversation at the Reading Room in Decatur, GA with author Pamela Terry. Pamela writes beautiful, complex Southern fiction, exploring themes especially relevant today. So grateful for participants eager to engage in a discussion around how fiction can challenge and illuminate, especially in our current political moment as we see troubling patterns of history refuse to recede. We got to climb through a B-17 a few weeks ago, as a group of World War Two aircraft made a stop at Peachtree DeKalb Airport. A fitting place for them to come, as PDK sits on the original site of Naval Air Station Atlanta, which operated from 1942 to 1959. It was heartening to see so many families there, their children eager to learn about the vital role these aircraft played in the war. (Hugs to friends Stacy and Gerard for making sure we knew about this event.)

The digital pub Shoutout Atlanta has just published an interview we did about writing—when to press ahead and when to pivot. They also asked for my best recommendations for must-see places in Atlanta. You can find the article here and you might not be surprised to learn my most beloved places in my city are the historical sites.

We had a giveaway day for THE FLORENTINE ENTANGLEMENT last week, and let’s just say things went well.
